Le DEHP, un plastifiant courant, lié à plus de 350 000 décès cardiovasculaires dans le monde en 2018
Une étude dirigée par NYU Langone Health révèle qu’une exposition quotidienne au DEHP, un phtalate utilisé pour assouplir les plastiques, pourrait avoir contribué à plus de 356 000 décès liés à des maladies cardiovasculaires en 2018 chez les personnes âgées de 55 à 64 ans. Ces décès, représentant plus de 13 % des morts cardiovasculaires mondiales dans cette tranche d’âge, touchent particulièrement l’Asie de l’Est, l’Asie du Sud et le Moyen-Orient. Le DEHP est présent dans de nombreux produits courants, des contenants alimentaires aux dispositifs médicaux, et son action pro-inflammatoire est suspectée d’endommager les artères. L’étude, parue dans Lancet eBiomedicine, souligne un besoin urgent de régulation mondiale face aux risques sanitaires liés aux plastifiants.
Recyclage durable des silicones
Des chercheurs du CNRS ont mis au point une méthode inédite de recyclage des déchets silicones, capable de ramener tout type de matériau silicone usagé à un état moléculaire élémentaire, sans recourir aux matières premières traditionnelles. Ce procédé chimique universel transforme les silicones usagés en (méthyl)chlorosilanes, éléments de base purifiables industriellement, permettant une réutilisation infinie sans perte de propriétés. Contrairement aux procédés actuels très énergivores issus du quartz naturel, cette approche réduit drastiquement les émissions de CO2 liées à la fabrication du silicium. Présenté dans la revue Science, ce procédé ouvre des perspectives majeures pour renforcer la durabilité de la filière silicone et limiter la dépendance aux ressources minérales critiques. Les recherches se poursuivent pour son industrialisation et son extension à d’autres matériaux polymères afin d’accroître la résilience des chaînes d’approvisionnement.
France 2030 : l’Ademe lance Capte pour accélérer le recyclage des plastiques, textiles et élastomères
Dans le cadre de France 2030, l’Ademe lance l’appel à projets Capte, destiné à renforcer la circularité des plastiques, élastomères et textiles en soutenant des innovations dans le tri, le surtri, et les techniques de recyclage mécanique, chimique ou physico-mécanique. Cet appel vise à structurer une filière nationale capable de répondre aux objectifs du règlement européen PPWR sur la recyclabilité et l’intégration de matières recyclées d’ici 2030 et 2040. En 2020, moins de 25 % des emballages plastiques étaient recyclés en France, et le recyclage textile reste embryonnaire malgré un gisement important. Capte souhaite faire émerger de nouveaux acteurs et renforcer l’utilisation de polymères recyclés dans les produits industriels. Deux dates de dépôt sont prévues : 8 septembre 2025 et 30 janvier 2026. Cette initiative, s’inscrivant dans la continuité des premiers projets France 2030 comme ceux de Paprec Plastiques ou de Décathlon, témoigne de la volonté de l’État de soutenir activement la transition vers une économie circulaire des polymères et textiles.
Un hydrogel programmable par UV
Des chercheurs de l’Université nationale de Taïwan et de l’Institut de technologie de Karlsruhe ont développé un hydrogel innovant dont les mouvements peuvent être programmés par exposition aux UV, permettant un contrôle spatial précis des déformations thermoréactives. Basé sur un copolymère de poly(oxyde d’éthylène)méthyléther acrylate et de poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PPEGA-PNIPAM), cet hydrogel subit une photodégradation locale qui module son comportement thermoréactif. La fabrication par photolithographie UV permet d’obtenir des régions contractiles programmées qui imitent des mouvements complexes sans structure multicouche. L’ajout de gélatine méthacrylate améliore la biocompatibilité du matériau, comme le montrent les essais cellulaires avec des précurseurs musculaires C2C12. Cette approche ouvre des perspectives prometteuses pour la robotique souple, les muscles artificiels et les modèles biologiques in vitro, en combinant activement polymères fonctionnels et conception biomimétique.

Un polymère injectable pour favoriser la réparation tissulaire après un infarctus
Des chercheurs de l’Université de Californie à San Diego et de la Northwestern University ont développé une nouvelle thérapie à base de polymères de type protéique injectable par voie intraveineuse juste après une crise cardiaque. Cette approche vise à stimuler la réparation des tissus et à prévenir l’insuffisance cardiaque. Le polymère, appelé PLP, imite une protéine naturelle (Nrf2) protégeant les cellules contre l’inflammation. En se liant à la protéine KEAP1, il empêche la dégradation de Nrf2, améliorant ainsi la survie des cellules cardiaques. Testé sur des rats, le traitement a montré une meilleure fonction cardiaque et une réduction significative des zones endommagées cinq semaines après injection, comparé à une injection de solution saline. Publiée dans Advanced Materials, cette étude constitue une preuve de concept prometteuse pour des applications élargies en médecine régénérative.
Recyclage des pales d’éoliennes : vers des plastiques renforcés
Des chercheurs de la Washington State University proposent une nouvelle méthode pour recycler les pales d’éoliennes en verre-fibre polymère (GFRP) sans produits chimiques agressifs. En utilisant un bain de zinc acétate dans de l’eau surchauffée sous pression, ils parviennent à récupérer des fibres de verre et des résines de qualité qui sont ensuite incorporées à des thermoplastiques pour former de nouveaux composites. Le recyclage des fibres a permis d’améliorer la résistance du nylon par trois et sa rigidité par huit, tout en limitant l’impact environnemental grâce à la récupération du catalyseur. Cette approche ouvre la voie à une gestion plus durable des déchets éoliens et à la création de plastiques renforcés plus écoresponsables.
