Une polymérisation pilotée par la lumière permet une impression 3D à résolution submillimétrique
Des chercheurs de l’Université autonome de Barcelone (UAB) ont mis au point une réaction de photopolymérisation innovante, pilotée par deux couleurs de lumière antagonistes, permettant de contrôler très précisément la formation de polymères solides. Cette approche, basée sur une réaction cycloaddition oxo-Diels–Alder, utilise une lumière ultraviolette pour activer la polymérisation, tandis qu’une lumière rouge l’inhibe simultanément. Cette stratégie inédite autorise la fabrication d’objets 3D aux formes très précises et à des résolutions inférieures au millimètre. Ce progrès ouvre de nouvelles perspectives pour l’impression 3D haute précision, potentiellement jusqu’à l’échelle submicrométrique.

Origine moléculaire de la vie : le calcium, clé inattendue de l’asymétrie chirale des polymères primitifs
Une étude internationale dirigée par l’Institut ELSI de Tokyo révèle comment les ions calcium auraient pu influencer la formation des premières molécules de la vie, expliquant ainsi l’apparition de l’homochiralité—la préférence d’une seule forme « gauche » ou « droite » des molécules biologiques. En examinant l’acide tartrique, les chercheurs montrent que le calcium modifie radicalement les réactions de polymérisation, favorisant la formation de polymères mixtes dans des solutions équilibrées, tout en freinant celles des solutions homogènes. Ce mécanisme inédit suggère que le calcium aurait pu amplifier des déséquilibres chiraux primitifs, jouant ainsi un rôle crucial dans l’émergence de molécules biologiques homochirales sur la Terre primitive.

Des micro-organismes pour produire un plastique écologique aux propriétés du nylon
Des chercheurs du KAIST en Corée du Sud ont développé un nouveau type de plastique biosourcé nommé poly(ester amide), combinant les avantages du polyester (PET) et du nylon. Grâce à une ingénierie métabolique poussée, ils ont modifié des micro-organismes capables de convertir du glucose issu de biomasse végétale en polymères durables, avec des rendements prometteurs à l’échelle industrielle. Ces bio-polymères, comparables au polyéthylène haute densité (HDPE) en termes de robustesse, constituent une alternative renouvelable aux plastiques issus du pétrole, ouvrant la voie vers une industrie plastique plus durable et écologique.

Un hydrogel imprimé en 3D à base de ménisque bovin pour réparer efficacement les lésions du ménisque humain
Des chercheurs de l’Université de Pennsylvanie ont développé un hydrogel innovant issu de ménisques bovins, capable de traiter les lésions du ménisque avec une précision inédite. Ce matériau, obtenu par décellularisation pour prévenir le rejet immunitaire, est imprimé en 3D afin de correspondre exactement aux propriétés biomécaniques spécifiques des différentes zones du ménisque. Les études précliniques montrent une excellente intégration et une meilleure régénération du tissu lésé comparé aux traitements actuels. Cette approche sur mesure pourrait révolutionner la prise en charge des lésions méniscales, offrant aux patients une récupération plus complète et personnalisée.

comme vous le savez certainement, face aux très violentes attaques menées aux Etats Unis contre la science en général, un certain nombre de scientifiques très reconnus ont lancé en France un appel à soutien du mouvement « Stand Up For Science ». La tribune de lancement de cet appel est paru récemment dans le journal le Monde (voir ci-dessous).
Réuni hier, lundi 4 mars, le CA de la FFM a décidé de se joindre à ce mouvement et j’ai donc envoyé aujourd’hui une lettre de soutien aux organisateurs de cette action. Vous trouverez cette lettre en fichier attaché.
Cette situation d’attaque inédite dans nos démocraties nous touche évidemment toutes et tous. Je vous invite à relayer aux sein de vos associations cet appel à l’engagement que chacun peut signer. Certaines associations membres de la FFM sont déjà très actives pour cette action, mais ensemble nous représentons un très grand nombre d’adhérentes et adhérents (nettement plus de 10 000), si nous transmettons cet appel cela peut avoir un impact important quant à son soutien.
