Alliance européenne pour le recyclage du PMMA : Röhm accélère la circularité dans l’automobile
Lancée en 2024 par Röhm et plusieurs partenaires de l’industrie, l’alliance européenne pour le recyclage du polyméthacrylate de méthyle (PMMA) connaît un fort essor, permettant d’augmenter significativement les taux de récupération et d’éviter l’export hors UE. Le dispositif combine collecte, tri et recyclage mécanique, avec une ouverture future vers le recyclage chimique afin de produire des matières premières de qualité équivalente au vierge. En collaboration avec Valeo et le consortium The Future Is NEUTRAL™ (Renault), Röhm a déjà mis au point un prototype de feux arrière intégrant 30 % de PMMA recyclé mécaniquement, présenté au salon K 2025. Une seconde phase testera des formulations issues du recyclage chimique. Ces travaux s’inscrivent dans la révision de la réglementation européenne sur les véhicules en fin de vie, qui imposera bientôt 20 % de plastiques post-consommation dans les voitures neuves. Positionnée en acteur clé, Röhm renforce ainsi la circularité du PMMA et son intégration dans la chaîne de valeur automobile.
Les polymères durables ouvrent la voie à une mobilité plus verte
Au-delà du débat entre véhicules électriques et thermiques, l’intégration de polymères biosourcés et recyclés apparaît comme un levier clé pour réduire l’empreinte environnementale de l’automobile. Aux États-Unis, Citroniq prévoit d’ouvrir en 2029 une unité de polypropylène biogénique de 600 000 t/an, capable de capter et stocker trois millions de tonnes de CO₂ sous forme solide, marquant une étape majeure pour les polyoléfines à faible empreinte carbone. Selon IDTechEx, les applications automobiles des biopolymères pourraient dépasser 500 000 tonnes d’ici 2035, avec le polypropylène biosourcé en tête. Si l’usage de matières recyclées se heurte encore à des contraintes de disponibilité, de coût et de variabilité des propriétés, des solutions se développent, notamment pour les composants intérieurs en polypropylène monomatière. Parallèlement, l’intégration de fibres naturelles comme le lin, via les composites ampliTex et powerRibs de Bcomp, gagne du terrain, déjà adoptée par Volvo et Cupra, et récemment testée en compétition moto avec Suzuki. Ces innovations illustrent la diversification des voies vers une mobilité plus durable, où les matériaux polymères jouent un rôle aussi stratégique que la motorisation.
Demande en résines recyclées fragilisée par la conjoncture économiqu
La demande en résines recyclées reste étroitement dépendante de la conjoncture économique. Si les consommateurs affirment soutenir les produits intégrant du contenu recyclé, la volonté de payer un surcoût (« green premium ») s’effrite en période de tension budgétaire. Les enquêtes récentes montrent que l’impact environnemental demeure un critère important, mais qu’il cède face aux contraintes de prix et au recul de la confiance des ménages. Dans ce contexte, les marchés du rPET aux États-Unis restent atones avec des prix de balles bas mais stabilisés, et des commandes irrégulières liées aux incertitudes tarifaires. Le rHDPE se maintient autour de 40 cts/lb, tandis que le PE basse densité de qualité inférieure s’effondre. Le marché du PP recyclé reste particulièrement pénalisé par la concurrence des cargaisons vierges à bas coût, freinant l’adoption commerciale malgré des essais en cours. L’ensemble du secteur subit donc un ralentissement de la croissance anticipée de la demande.

Webinaire SF2M : Recyclage, recyclabilité et ré-utilisation des polymères et composites
Le recyclage n’est bien entendu que l’étape ultime d’une économie circulaire des matières ou zéro déchet (le dernier R de : Refuser, Réduire, Réutiliser, Recycler -et éventuellement Rendre-). Les polymères représentent aujourd’hui une production annuelle de plus de 400 Mt, celle des composites à matrice organique environ 13 Mt et on évalue la part de polymères recyclés annuellement à 9 % à l’échelle mondiale pour 350 Mt de déchets plastiques (part du plastique recyclé dans production en Europe : 13,1 %). Avant d’entrer dans une description scientifique des procédés de recyclage des matières, on s’attachera à essayer de décrire la réalité quant aux types de polymères produits et leurs usages pour montrer la nécessité d’aborder la problématique du recyclage de ces matières de manière holistique et interdisciplinaire: compétition avec d’autres modes de valorisation (énergétique), thermoplastiques en particulier polyoléfines vs. autres polymères, possibilités et limitations intrinsèques au recyclage des polymères, gisements actuels et futurs issus des différentes filières et leurs flux, cycles de vie des produits, valeur des matières, rôle des réglementations, etc.
