Vers la fin du plastique ? Une cellulose bactérienne alignée rivalise avec les métaux
Une équipe de Rice University a mis au point un procédé dynamique de biosynthèse permettant d’aligner en temps réel les nanofibrilles de cellulose bactérienne lors de leur croissance. Grâce à un bioréacteur rotatif, ces fibres se déposent de manière ordonnée, produisant des feuilles flexibles, transparentes et solides (jusqu’à 553 MPa avec nitrure de bore). Cette biocellulose ainsi structurée devient multifonctionnelle (résistance, conduction thermique, compatibilité nanomatériaux) et ouvre la voie à une alternative durable au plastique, pour l’emballage, les composants électroniques ou le stockage d’énergie.

Recycler les plastiques multicouches grâce à la délamination et aux enzymes
Les plastiques multicouches, difficiles à séparer et à recycler, représentent un défi majeur pour l’économie circulaire. Le centre AIMPLAS propose une solution innovante en combinant la délamination physico-chimique sous fluides supercritiques et le tri mécanique optimisé (NIR, densité, triboélectrique). Ces technologies permettent de récupérer séparément PE, PET et aluminium, qui sont ensuite réutilisés pour fabriquer de nouveaux produits, comme des films ou des pots. AIMPLAS explore aussi le recyclage enzymatique, en intégrant des enzymes modifiées dans les matériaux pour favoriser une auto-biodégradation contrôlée.
Les pailles papier dans le viseur d’une nouvelle réglementation fédérale américaine
Une proposition de règle émise par le Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council impose aux prestataires du gouvernement américain de ne pas fournir de pailles en papier, au nom de leur manque de robustesse, de leur coût élevé et de possibles risques sanitaires. Cette disposition fait suite à un décret signé en février 2025 par Donald Trump. Le texte s’appuie notamment sur une étude universitaire signalant une perte de 70 à 90 % de résistance mécanique des pailles papier après 30 minutes d’immersion. Les biopailles à base de polymères biosourcés sont mentionnées comme alternatives plus performantes. Le débat reste ouvert jusqu’au 19 septembre dans le Federal Register, révélant une nouvelle tension entre préoccupations environnementales et impératifs économiques et fonctionnels.
Call for participation : accuracy limits of SEC systems (IUPAC Polymer Division)
Dear all,
Within the IUPAC Polymer Division, Professor Tanja Junkers is running a project on a SEC round robin study with the aim to establish accuracy limits of SEC systems used in practice in labs around the world. They have a set of samples ready to distribute to labs that would like to take part in this study, and would like to collect some information from interested labs now. If you indeed would like to help them with this study, please fill in the form below. Please note that while they are looking for participants with a good understanding and regular use of SEC, it is by no means required to be an expert in chromatography. They want to catch the accuracy of everyday use of SEC rather than an optimized picture that may or may not be representative of literature data.
If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email (Tanja.Junkers@monash.edu tanja.junkers@monash.edu). Once they have identified sufficient labs to take part in the study, Tanja will be in contact with you with further instructions. They may ask you to run more than one analysis per sample depending on the outcome of the questionnaire.

Retour sur le 2ᵉ Congrès Bilatéral Franco-Japonais sur les Polymères
Du 10 au 12 juillet 2025 s’est tenu à Kita-Kyushu (Japon) le deuxième congrès bilatéral Franco-Japonais sur les polymères, coorganisé par la Société Française des Polymères (GFP) et la Society of Polymer Science, Japan (SPSJ). Ce congrès, piloté par le Professeur Keiji Tanaka (Vice-Président de la SPSJ), s’est déroulé dans la continuité de la 19ᵉ Pacific Polymer Conference (PPC19), organisée au même endroit du 6 au 10 juillet. Pour rappel, le premier congrès bilatéral GFP-SPSJ avait été organisé à Montpellier en janvier 2020, marquant une étape fondatrice dans les échanges entre les deux sociétés savantes. lire plus…
Recycler sans trier : vers une valorisation enzymatique efficace des déchets polyester mélangés
Une étude française publiée dans PNAS révèle une méthode ingénieuse pour recycler les déchets polyester non triés, comme les textiles techniques ou les polymères automobiles. En chauffant ces mélanges à 270 °C, les chercheurs exploitent les catalyseurs résiduels issus de leur fabrication pour provoquer une transestérification, créant des copolymères plus désordonnés. L’ajout d’un agent époxy limite la cristallisation, rendant ces matériaux plus accessibles aux enzymes. Résultat : une dépolymérisation enzymatique jusqu’à 90 % pour un mélange PET-PBT, contre seulement 20 % et 1 % respectivement pris isolément. Cette approche contre-intuitive démontre que le mélange raisonné pourrait surpasser le tri dans le recyclage des polyesters complexes.
