Recyclage des polymères renforcés de fibres de carbone par acide acétique : une voie douce et efficace
Des chercheurs du National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) ont mis au point une méthode efficace pour recycler les polymères époxy-amine renforcés de fibres de carbone (CFRP), en utilisant un solvant accessible : l’acide acétique. Ces matériaux, très utilisés dans l’aéronautique, les éoliennes ou les sports de haute performance, posaient jusqu’ici un défi majeur en fin de vie du fait de la stabilité chimique des résines thermodurcissables qu’ils contiennent.
Le protocole consiste à immerger les composites dans de l’acide acétique à 220–280 °C, ce qui permet la solvolyse des liaisons amine-époxy en quelques heures, tout en préservant l’intégrité des fibres de carbone. Les fibres récupérées (1 à 3 cm) conservent des propriétés suffisantes pour des applications structurelles dans l’automobile, et les monomères organiques issus de la résine peuvent potentiellement être retransformés en résine vierge via recyclage chimique.
Cette approche repose sur une logique polymère circulaire : elle permet de dépolymériser sélectivement un réseau réticulé, en ciblant les liaisons entre chaînes sans altérer le squelette carboné du renfort. L’efficacité énergétique du procédé est remarquable, avec des émissions de gaz à effet de serre réduites de 99 % par rapport à la production initiale. Des travaux sont en cours pour optimiser les étapes de séparation des sous-produits et envisager une catalyse à plus basse température. Ce développement ouvre la voie à un recyclage industriel viable des thermodurcissables, longtemps considérés comme non recyclables.

L’Union européenne impose du plastique recyclé dans les véhicules et généralise l’approche circulaire
Le Conseil de l’UE vient d’adopter sa position sur la future réglementation relative aux véhicules en fin de vie (VHU), étendant ses exigences aux poids lourds, deux-roues et véhicules spéciaux. Ce texte impose des taux progressifs de plastique recyclé dans les véhicules neufs (15 % à 6 ans, 20 % à 8 ans, 25 % à 10 ans) et ouvre la voie à des cibles analogues pour l’acier, l’aluminium ou les matériaux critiques. L’intégration de polymères recyclés devra donc respecter des contraintes de performance, de compatibilité chimique, de durabilité thermique et d’aptitude au moulage équivalentes aux résines vierges, dans des composants à haute exigence technique. Ce nouveau cadre place les plasturgistes au cœur de la stratégie européenne de circularité.
Des extraits de plantes pour éliminer jusqu’à 90 % des microplastiques dans l’eau
Des chercheurs ont démontré que des polymères naturels extraits du gombo et du fenugrec peuvent piéger efficacement les microplastiques présents dans l’eau. Ces polysaccharides végétaux induisent l’agglomération des particules plastiques, facilitant leur séparation. Testés sur différents types d’eau, les extraits ont permis d’éliminer jusqu’à 90 % des microplastiques, surpassant les polymères synthétiques classiques comme le polyacrylamide. Cette approche promet une solution durable, biodégradable et sans toxicité pour le traitement de l’eau.

Un catalyseur au bore détruit les PFAS en quelques secondes à température ambiante
Des chimistes de l’Université Goethe de Francfort ont mis au point un catalyseur boré capable de briser les très stables liaisons C–F des PFAS, molécules réputées « éternelles » pour leur résistance thermique et chimique. Le catalyseur, composé de deux atomes de bore insérés dans un squelette carboné, transfère efficacement des électrons—provenant pour l’instant du lithium—vers les liaisons C–F. Cette rupture se fait en quelques secondes, à température ambiante. Des travaux sont en cours pour remplacer le lithium par un courant électrique, simplifiant ainsi le procédé. Outre la dégradation des PFAS, cette stratégie ouvre la voie à un contrôle précis de la fluorination dans les molécules pharmaceutiques.

Un catalyseur au cobalt surclasse le platine pour produire du propylène
Des chercheurs chinois ont développé un catalyseur zéolitique à base de cobalt (CoS-1) surpassant les performances du classique PtSn/Al₂O₃ pour la déshydrogénation du propane en propylène. Synthétisé par voie hydrothermale puis purifié pour ne conserver que des sites cobalt tétraédriques stables, CoS-1 atteint une productivité de 9,7 kgC₃/kg/h. Les simulations DFT révèlent que le cadre flexible de la zéolithe abaisse la barrière énergétique par effets entropiques, expliquant sa haute activité. Sa stabilité remarquable s’explique par une désorption rapide du propylène, limitant la formation de coke.

Composites polymères pour des nanogénérateurs triboélectriques durables et imprimables
Des chercheurs de l’université de Boise State ont conçu un nanogénérateur triboélectrique (TENG) imprimé, souple et respectueux de l’environnement, en combinant un copolymère PVBVA avec des nanosheets de MXene (Ti₃C₂Tx). Ce composite, déposé par impression à partir d’encres éthanoliques, permet de convertir l’énergie mécanique issue du mouvement humain ou de l’environnement (pluie) en électricité, tout en assurant une fonction de capteur de mouvement en temps réel.
Avec une tension à vide de 252 V et une densité de puissance maximale atteignant 760 mW/m², cette architecture repose sur une forte polarisation interfaciale entre les charges de surface du MXene et la matrice polymère. Ce couplage assure une stabilité mécanique après plus de 10 000 cycles de flexion. L’intégration de l’électrode argentée et l’usage d’un procédé d’impression additive rendent le dispositif à la fois scalable et compatible avec des applications portables, sans solvants fluorés nocifs.
L’étude ouvre de nouvelles perspectives dans la conception de capteurs souples autonomes pour l’électronique portable, les interfaces homme-machine et la récupération d’énergie à faible impact environnemental.
