L’exploration approfondie des synergies macromoléculaires ouvre de nouvelles perspectives pour le développement de matrices polymères biodégradables destinées à l’emballage actif. Or, l’élaboration de ces films hybrides repose sur la co-dissolution d’alcool polyvinylique et de chitosane issu d’exosquelettes de crustacés, plastifiée par du polyéthylène glycol. L’intégration de nanoparticules d’oxyde de zinc, biosynthétisées par voie phytochimique, confère au réseau une intégrité structurale inédite. Au cœur de cette matrice, une dispersion rigoureuse favorise l’établissement d’un maillage dense de liaisons hydrogène interfaciales entre les groupements hydroxyles ou amides des polymères et les nano-renforts inorganiques. Cette dynamique topologique exalte la cohésion globale, se traduisant par une ductilité exceptionnelle et une résistance mécanique largement supérieure à celle des polyoléfines classiques. Parallèlement, l’inclusion de ces entités nanométriques génère un puissant effet de tortuosité qui restreint drastiquement la perméabilité à la vapeur d’eau, tout en entravant la migration délétère des molécules plastifiantes vers l’interface externe. Ce prix annuel, créé en 2024, vise à pour distinguer un(e) scientifique en début de carrière qui a apporté une contribution originale au domaine des polymères.
Organiser le soufre à l’échelle atomique pour des plastiques innovants
Des chercheurs ont développé une stratégie de synthèse de précision permettant l’organisation rigoureuse du soufre élémentaire au sein d’architectures macromoléculaires, franchissant ainsi un obstacle majeur dans la chimie des matériaux riches en soufre. Cette approche novatrice repose sur l’emploi d’un synthone spécifique de type dithio-vinylthio en C2, véritable brique élémentaire permettant d’assembler des polymères « décorés » de soufre avec une régularité séquentielle et stéréochimique inédite. Contrairement aux méthodes conventionnelles telles que la vulcanisation inverse, qui génèrent souvent des réseaux amorphes et structurellement hétérogènes, cette maîtrise de l’agencement atomique induit une cristallinité élevée et une stabilité thermique remarquable. Outre ces gains structurels, les matériaux obtenus manifestent une propriété optique singulière : une luminescence intrinsèque intense, obtenue sans l’ajout d’aucun fluorophore organique ou métallique externe. Cette capacité à conjuguer ordre à longue distance et fonctionnalité photonique au sein d’une matrice processable ouvre des perspectives technologiques prometteuses pour la conception de plastiques optoélectroniques durables et de dispositifs d’affichage de nouvelle génération, valorisant une ressource abondante tout en s’affranchissant des additifs émissifs coûteux.
Synthèse de polyoléfines multiblocs ramifiées par métathèse croisée assistée : vers des élastomères thermoplastiques de nouvelle génération
Des chercheurs ont élaboré une stratégie de synthèse novatrice permettant l’obtention de copolymères multiblocs combinant des segments de polypropylène isotactique rigide et de caoutchouc éthylène-propylène, via une réaction de métathèse croisée entre chaînes macromoléculaires. L’approche méthodologique repose initialement sur l’incorporation contrôlée d’insaturations au sein du squelette polymère par copolymérisation avec du butadiène, un processus dont la cinétique est considérablement exaltée par l’introduction catalytique d’éthylène, favorisant la réactivation des espèces métal-allyle latentes en espèces alkyles actives. L’étape ultérieure de métathèse, catalysée par un complexe de ruthénium, exploite non seulement les doubles liaisons internes mais également les groupements vinyles pendants issus de l’insertion régio-irrégulière du diène, conduisant à la formation d’une architecture complexe caractérisée par des ramifications à longues chaînes. Contrairement aux mélanges physiques classiques qui présentent une ségrégation de phase marquée et une rupture fragile, cette nouvelle architecture induit une compatibilisation interfaciale partielle des domaines cristallins et amorphes. Cette synergie structurelle se traduit par une ductilité remarquable et une ténacité exceptionnelle sans phénomène de craquelure, qualifiant ces matériaux comme des candidats prometteurs pour le développement d’élastomères thermoplastiques polyoléfines de haute performance.
