Polymères Janus : des vésicules géantes auto-assemblées avec précision grâce à la théorie de Flory-Huggins
Des chercheurs ont développé une méthode prédictive pour fabriquer des polymérosomes Janus géants (JGUVs), à partir de copolymères blocs amphiphiles, en s’appuyant sur la théorie de Flory–Huggins. Grâce à cette approche rationnelle, ils ont obtenu plus de 90 % de vésicules Janus stables via électroformation, avec un diagramme de phase général reliant l’énergie de mélange à la morphologie des polymérosomes. Extrudables et quasi-monodisperses, ces vésicules conservent leur asymétrie, ouvrant la voie à des applications avancées en vectorisation et synthèse cellulaire.

Photocatalyse des plastiques : vers une conversion directe en carburants à haute valeur ajoutée
Une revue publiée dans Science China Chemistry explore les voies photocatalytiques pour valoriser les déchets plastiques en carburants et composés chimiques utiles. Les auteurs analysent les conversions indirectes de plastiques comme le PET, le PLA ou le PE via des prétraitements alcalins ou hydrothermaux, mais aussi les conversions directes, telles que l’amination du PLA ou la dégradation du PVC par espèces réactives de l’oxygène. Ces stratégies exploitent la lumière comme source d’énergie propre, contournant les pollutions liées à l’incinération. L’enjeu reste d’améliorer le rendement et la sélectivité des catalyseurs pour généraliser ce recyclage chimique vert.
Un adhésif thermofusible à base de xylane surpasse les colles pétrosourcées
Des chercheurs de l’Université forestière de Pékin ont développé un adhésif thermofusible biosourcé à partir de xylane issu des résidus de la filière viscose. Par oxydation sélective suivie d’une réduction chimique, ils ont obtenu un polymère modifié (dialcool xylane) formant une couche continue capable d’interagir fortement avec les substrats lignocellulosiques via des liaisons hydrogène et des forces de van der Waals. Ce polymère présente une résistance au cisaillement atteignant 30 MPa et reste performant jusqu’à –25 °C. Il surclasse les HMAs commerciaux en termes de performance, tout en étant recyclable plus de dix fois sans perte de propriétés, offrant ainsi une alternative polymère durable aux colles industrielles classiques.

Des polymères aromatiques insolubles deviennent des hôtes colloïdaux fonctionnels grâce à des micelles aromatiques
Des chercheurs de Science Tokyo ont réussi à disperser en milieu aqueux des polymères aromatiques poreux (PAPs) auparavant insolubles, en les encapsulant dans des micelles formées par des amphiphiles aromatiques. Ce système génère des particules sphériques d’environ 100 nm de diamètre, à cavités multiples, capables d’incorporer hydrocarbures et colorants hydrophobes comme le sexithiophène. Cette méthode induit un fort renforcement d’émission, jusqu’à un facteur 9, par désagrégation des colorants dans la matrice polymère rigide. Ces structures colloïdales multicomposants offrent de nouvelles perspectives en détection et stockage en phase aqueuse.

Plastics Hall of Fame 2025 : 18 nouveaux pionniers honorés à Düsseldorf
Le 1er juin 2025, le Plastics Hall of Fame a dévoilé les 18 nouveaux membres de sa promotion, qui seront officiellement intronisés le 7 octobre à Düsseldorf, à la veille de l’ouverture du salon K 2025. Ces personnalités ont marqué l’industrie mondiale des plastiques par leurs innovations majeures, allant du recyclage mécanique (fondateurs d’Erema) à la catalyse de polyoléfines (Bill Knight, Dow), en passant par la délivrance contrôlée de médicaments (Robert Langer, MIT) ou encore la fusion des procédés d’injection (Erwin Bürkle, KraussMaffei). Cette édition rend aussi hommage à trois figures historiques, dont Otto Röhm, découvreur du Plexiglas.
