Toyoda Gosei inaugure un plastique recyclé à 50 % pour pièces automobiles intérieures sans compromis sur la performance
Le fabricant japonais Toyoda Gosei, fournisseur de rang 1 pour l’industrie automobile, a développé une nouvelle technologie de recyclage permettant de produire un plastique recyclé de haute qualité à partir de véhicules en fin de vie (ELV), incorporé à hauteur de 50 % dans des pièces intérieures exigeant une forte résistance aux chocs, une première mondiale selon l’entreprise. Cette avancée répond à la fois aux objectifs de réduction des émissions de CO₂ et à la montée en puissance des exigences réglementaires, notamment sur le marché européen. Jusqu’à présent, les plastiques recyclés issus de l’automobile souffraient de performances insuffisantes, limitant leur réemploi à des applications de moindre exigence ou à une valorisation thermique. En collaboration avec le recycleur Isono, Toyoda Gosei est parvenue à contourner cette limitation grâce à une technologie propriétaire de modification des matériaux, obtenant un polypropylène recyclé aux propriétés équivalentes à celles d’un matériau vierge. Ce matériau est d’ores et déjà utilisé dans la Toyota Camry 2024, pour des pièces telles que les boîtes à gants, les compartiments de rangement et les calandres.
Muscle artificiel souple auto-réparant pour robot : cicatrisation et réinitialisation autonomes
Une équipe de l’Université du Nebraska–Lincoln a présenté un véritable muscle artificiel capable de détecter, réparer et réinitialiser un dommage sans intervention externe. La structure comprend trois couches : une « peau » conductrice constituée de silicone et de microgouttes de métal liquide pour la détection, une zone intermédiaire en élastomère thermoplastique qui fond par effet Joule pour refermer automatiquement la perforation, et une couche d’action activée par un système hydraulique. Lorsqu’un dommage est détecté, un courant local chauffe la zone endommagée, déclenchant la fusion du thermoplastique pour reboucher la blessure. Ensuite, un procédé d’électromigration efface les connexions conductrices induites, réinitialisant la couche détectrice pour permettre un nouveau cycle.

Recyclage chimique des plastiques : un développement prometteur freiné par des incertitudes réglementaires
Polyvia a publié son rapport 2025 sur l’état du recyclage chimique des plastiques, soulignant une croissance marquée du nombre d’usines en Europe malgré une conjoncture pétrochimique mondiale en repli. Sur une vingtaine d’unités en activité, 15 sont européennes, et l’Europe devrait accueillir 31 des 45 nouvelles installations prévues d’ici 2028. Ce développement reste toutefois conditionné à la clarification réglementaire, à l’instauration de normes harmonisées et à un soutien financier accru, à l’instar des 500 M€ récemment autorisés par la Commission européenne pour la France. Le rapport met en lumière l’attrait des projets à forte densité de déchets, comme les pneus et matelas, soutenus par des fonds publics. À l’inverse, les déchets plastiques légers, notamment les emballages, suscitent moins d’intérêt. Des projets comme celui de Suez ont été annulés pour raisons économiques, tandis que d’autres, comme celui d’Eastman, sont suspendus dans l’attente de clarifications réglementaires, notamment sur l’impact de la directive PPWR et l’ouverture aux plastiques recyclés extra-européens.
Techniques de l’Ingénieur Plastiques en agriculture et agroalimentaire : une expertise INRAE-CNRS alerte sur leur impact massif
Le 23 mai 2025, l’expertise scientifique collective pilotée par l’INRAE et le CNRS a livré un état des lieux préoccupant sur les plastiques utilisés en agriculture et pour l’alimentation. Représentant environ 20 % des plastiques consommés en France — principalement dans les emballages — ces matériaux, souvent complexes et multi-couches, posent un défi majeur pour le recyclage. L’étude souligne une contamination massive des sols agricoles par les microplastiques, surpassant potentiellement celle des milieux marins, avec des effets avérés sur la santé des organismes vivants, humains inclus. L’expertise appelle à une recherche renforcée sur les alternatives, la simplification des compositions et la réduction à la source.
PepsiCo abandonne ses objectifs de réduction de plastique vierge, suivant la tendance de l’industrie
PepsiCo a officiellement renoncé à son engagement de porter à 20 % la part des emballages réutilisables d’ici 2030. Cette décision marque un net recul de la stratégie environnementale du géant de l’agroalimentaire, qui abandonne également plusieurs objectifs ambitieux de réduction de plastique vierge. En parallèle, son utilisation de plastique issu de ressources fossiles est passée de 2,18 à 2,3 millions de tonnes entre 2020 et 2023.
La société réduit désormais ses ambitions : -2 % par an de plastique vierge seulement, objectif de 40 % de contenu recyclé repoussé à 2035, et 97 % d’emballages recyclables d’ici 2030 (au lieu de 100 % dès 2025). Cette volte-face intervient après que Coca-Cola a également revu à la baisse ses engagements fin 2024.
Une nouvelle percée vers des cellules solaires organiques ultra-efficaces et économiques
Une équipe dirigée par le Pr Chenkai Sun (Université de Zhengzhou) a développé un nouveau polymère à très bas coût, le PTQ15, qui établit un record d’efficacité à 19,96 % dans des cellules solaires organiques. Produit en seulement 3 à 4 étapes de synthèse avec des rendements supérieurs à 80 %, ce matériau coûte jusqu’à six fois moins que les polymères de référence actuels. En plus de ses performances exceptionnelles, il conserve une efficacité de 19,37 % en conditions ambiantes (25 % d’humidité relative), ce qui en fait un candidat sérieux pour la production industrielle à grande échelle.
