Micromoulage de précision pour dispositifs médicaux mini-invasifs
Accumold, spécialiste américain du micromoulage, a mis au point un procédé innovant permettant de mouler en une seule étape des canules médicales à parois ultrafines, avec des épaisseurs atteignant seulement 0,004 pouce. Cette technologie, développée sur cinq ans, supprime les étapes secondaires d’extrusion traditionnelles, tout en assurant une meilleure uniformité des pièces et une production pouvant atteindre 40 millions d’unités par cellule. Grâce à son expertise en outillage interne et à ses installations, Accumold traite une large gamme de polymères médicaux comme le PEEK, le polycarbonate et le Pebax, essentiels pour les dispositifs médicaux mini-invasifs, les systèmes de diagnostic et les appareils de délivrance de médicaments. Cette avancée souligne l’importance du micromoulage polymère dans l’optimisation de la fabrication de composants médicaux complexes, tout en ouvrant de nouvelles possibilités de conception pour des dispositifs toujours plus compacts et performants.
Nouvelle méthode électrochimique pour mesurer la dégradation des revêtements polymères sur le fer
Des chercheurs ont mis au point une technique électrochimique innovante combinant potentiométrie par perméation d’hydrogène (HPP) et spectroscopie d’impédance électrochimique (EIS) pour mesurer la vitesse de dégradation des revêtements polymères sur le fer. Publiée dans Corrosion Science, cette approche permet de surmonter les limites des méthodes classiques, incapables de polariser efficacement les métaux sous des polymères ioniquement imperméables. En générant de l’hydrogène atomique à travers une membrane de palladium, les chercheurs parviennent à polariser l’interface métal-revêtement sans perturber le polymère, mesurant ainsi précisément la réduction de l’oxygène à l’origine de la dégradation. Validée par EIS, cette technique ouvre la voie à une meilleure évaluation de la durée de vie des revêtements polymères, essentielle pour les infrastructures transportant de l’hydrogène mélangé à du gaz naturel, ainsi que pour d’autres applications en capteurs et piles à combustible.
