Des bactéries fluorescentes pour détecter rapidement les microplastiques
Des chercheurs ont modifié une souche non pathogène de Pseudomonas aeruginosa pour créer un biosenseur vivant capable de détecter les microplastiques en quelques heures. Les bactéries génétiquement modifiées produisent une fluorescence verte lorsqu’elles adhèrent à des polymères (PET, PS…), mais pas à des matériaux inertes comme le verre. Testé sur des échantillons d’eau de mer urbaine, le capteur a détecté jusqu’à 100 ppm de microplastiques, avec confirmation par spectroscopie Raman. Cette approche rapide, peu coûteuse et sensible pourrait transformer le suivi environnemental à grande échelle et cibler les zones de pollution.
Recyclage mécanochimique du polystyrène en benzophénone
Des chercheurs de l’Université d’Akron ont démontré qu’un broyage mécanique catalysé par AlCl₃ peut dégrader le polystyrène en benzène et hydrocarbures aliphatiques en 15 minutes, avec un taux de conversion >90 %. En intégrant ensuite une acylation de Friedel–Crafts avec l’anhydride benzoïque dans le même réacteur, ils transforment directement le benzène en benzophénone, un intermédiaire chimique de valeur. Des ajustements (piégeage du benzène volatil, confinement thermique) ont permis d’atteindre 39 % de rendement, y compris à partir de déchets post-consommation (boîtes, couverts, gobelets). Cette approche illustre le potentiel du recyclage mécanochimique pour valoriser un plastique difficilement recyclable.
Mura mise sur l’Asie après l’abandon de son projet allemand avec Dow
Suite à l’annulation de son partenariat avec Dow en Allemagne, Mura Technology annonce la construction d’une unité de recyclage chimique des plastiques à Singapour (50 000 t/an), intégrée au complexe SECC sur l’île de Jurong. Avec des sites déjà au Japon et en Corée, Mura renforce ainsi sa stratégie asiatique pour répondre aux défis croissants liés à la gestion des déchets plastiques sur le continent.
L’Usine Nouvelle Vitrimères biosourcés multifonctionnels pour impression 3D et applications médicales
Des chercheurs de l’Université de Kaunas (KTU) ont mis au point de nouveaux vitrimères biosourcés, polymères réticulés capables de s’auto-réparer, de mémoriser une forme et de se retransformer thermiquement. Synthétisés à partir de composés d’huiles végétales et polymérisés sous UV ou lumière visible sans catalyseur, ils allient durabilité et simplicité de mise en œuvre. Leur structure confère aussi une activité antimicrobienne, idéale pour dispositifs médicaux et surfaces hygiéniques. Testés avec succès en impression 3D optique (ex. connecteurs médicaux en Y), ils ouvrent la voie à des matériaux intelligents, recyclables et durables pour la santé, l’électronique et l’optique.

Un polymère recyclable pour batteries aqueuses durables
Des chercheurs de l’Université de Tohoku ont conçu un polymère redox hydrophile en greffant du p-dihydroxybenzène sur une polyamine soluble, surmontant les limites de compatibilité des polymères organiques avec les électrolytes aqueux. Ce matériau électroactif fonctionne à température ambiante, présente une capacité élevée de stockage de charge et peut être décomposé en ses monomères sous 100 °C, favorisant le recyclage. Publiés dans Polymer Journal, ces résultats ouvrent la voie à des batteries aqueuses plus sûres, recyclables et respectueuses des ressources.

Une encre polymère optimise l’électrolyse du CO₂ en éthylène
Des chercheurs du Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory ont conçu un ionomère polymère capable de réguler le flux d’eau et de gaz dans des électrolyseurs à CO₂. Déposé sur un catalyseur de cuivre, ce revêtement agit comme un « régulateur de trafic moléculaire », évitant l’inondation ou l’assèchement de la réaction. Résultat : une réduction de la tension nécessaire et une hausse du rendement en éthylène, précurseur majeur des plastiques. Cette avancée, fruit du couplage entre chimie des polymères et modélisation multiphysique, ouvre la voie à des électrolyseurs plus efficaces et moins énergivores.
