Un capteur quantique auto-éclairé détecte une molécule au billionième de gramme
Des chercheurs de l’EPFL ont conçu un capteur optique révolutionnaire qui fonctionne sans source lumineuse externe. Exploitant le tunneling quantique inélastique, ce capteur utilise un nanofilm d’or structuré qui émet de la lumière lorsqu’un courant électrique est appliqué. L’interaction entre les électrons et la surface métallique crée des plasmons qui émettent des photons, modifiés par la présence de biomolécules. Cette approche permet la détection en temps réel de quantités infimes (picogramme) d’acides aminés ou de polymères, avec une précision équivalente aux meilleurs capteurs optiques actuels, mais sur une puce inférieure à un millimètre carré.

Des films fluoropolymères ultraminces pour l’électronique miniaturisée
Les fluoropolymères, et notamment les films à base de PTFE, permettent de concevoir des composants électroniques à haute fréquence, ultrafins et flexibles. Leurs faibles constantes diélectriques (DK) et facteurs de dissipation (DF) assurent une intégrité de signal cruciale dans les systèmes 5G et au-delà. Ces films peuvent atteindre une épaisseur de seulement 12,5 µm tout en conservant des propriétés mécaniques intéressantes. Fabriqués par procédé cast en roll-to-roll, ils autorisent une construction multicouche personnalisable et une maîtrise fine des paramètres diélectriques, tout en étant hydrophobes et chimiquement stables.

Les emballages alimentaires, source identifiée de micro- et nanoplastiques dans les aliments
Une méta-analyse de 103 études scientifiques révèle que l’utilisation normale d’emballages et d’ustensiles en plastique, comme ouvrir une bouteille ou couper sur une planche, libère des micro- et nanoplastiques (MNPs) dans les aliments. Ces MNPs, de tailles submillimétriques, proviennent directement des matériaux de contact alimentaire (FCA), et leur présence est avérée dans de nombreuses matrices alimentaires. La base de données FCMiNo détaille les polymères identifiés, les conditions d’exposition et la fiabilité des mesures. L’étude alerte sur l’absence de cadre normatif harmonisé pour tester et réguler la migration des MNPs depuis les polymères alimentaires, et appelle à de nouvelles méthodes d’analyse standardisées pour évaluer les risques sanitaires.
La RMN à l’état solide pilote la transformation chimique des déchets plastiques
Une méthode innovante de RMN à l’état solide permet désormais d’analyser en ligne la composition de mélanges plastiques complexes issus de déchets réels. Grâce à une spectroscopie FSLG-HETCOR optimisée, les chercheurs identifient les signatures chimiques des polymères courants (PE, PP, PVC, PLA…) et suivent en temps réel leur conversion catalytique en molécules à haute valeur ajoutée. Cette approche guide avec précision les étapes de séparation et de transformation, ouvrant la voie à un recyclage polymère plus intelligent et industriellement intégrable.

L’acide acétique chaud ouvre la voie au recyclage complet des composites à fibres de carbone
Des chercheurs du consortium BOTTLE ont démontré qu’un simple traitement à l’acide acétique chaud permet de dissoudre sélectivement les résines époxy-amines des matériaux composites à fibres de carbone sans endommager les fibres. Ce procédé permet de récupérer les fibres intactes et les blocs chimiques de la matrice, ouvrant la voie à un recyclage industriel économiquement viable pour ces polymères thermodurcissables complexes, tout en conservant des performances mécaniques élevées.

Des champignons pour digérer les polymères des couches jetables
L’entreprise Hero propose des couches jetables enrichies d’un sachet de champignons capables de biodégrader les polymères en une à deux semaines. Activés par l’humidité et les nutriments des déjections, ces champignons sécrètent des enzymes rompant les liaisons carbone des plastiques, transformant la couche en mycélium et compost. Cette innovation s’attaque aux polymères super-absorbants, complexes à décomposer selon l’Ademe, et ouvre la voie à une valorisation organique sans infrastructure industrielle.
