Développement de bioadhésifs innovants pour implants médicaux à long terme
Jiawei Yang, chercheur au Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), développe une nouvelle classe de bioadhésifs destinés à connecter de manière sûre et fiable les tissus humains aux dispositifs médicaux implantés, tels que les pacemakers, les pompes à insuline et les articulations artificielles. Ce projet, financé par un prestigieux prix CAREER de la National Science Foundation, combine des hydrogels et des polymères adhésifs adaptés aux propriétés mécaniques variées des tissus humains. Ces bioadhésifs à deux couches, comprenant un hydrogel solide transparent et une couche adhésive liquide claire, visent à assurer une adhésion forte, stable et adaptée aux contraintes physiologiques du corps humain. Les applications potentielles incluent le traitement de maladies cardiaques, la gestion de la maladie de Parkinson, et la régénération tissulaire.
Parfum olympique : innovation plastique et design au sommet
Le Coq Sportif a dévoilé une gamme innovante de trois parfums à l’occasion des Jeux Olympiques de Paris 2024, valorisant le savoir-faire en conception et injection plastique. En partenariat avec Extend Beauty et Codiplas, spécialiste de l’injection plastique, la marque a présenté un flacon dont le capot, fabriqué en polypropylène (PP), se distingue par sa complexité technique. La principale difficulté résidait dans l’optimisation précise du point d’injection pour éviter toute déformation lors du moulage. Un lest en acier intégré apporte un poids supplémentaire pour un effet qualitatif. Métallisé puis assemblé avec des éléments textiles aux couleurs françaises, ce produit démontre la synergie réussie entre design, plasturgie et identité sportive nationale.

L’Usine Nouvelle Des chercheurs transforment les déchets plastiques en produits imprimés en 3D de haute qualité
En partenariat avec l’Université des sciences appliquées de Brême (HSB), l’Institut Fraunhofer pour les technologies de fabrication et les matériaux avancés (IFAM) développe une nouvelle approche pour recycler les déchets plastiques domestiques difficiles à valoriser en produits imprimés en 3D. Grâce à un procédé rigoureux comprenant le broyage, le lavage, la séparation par flottation et l’identification par infrarouge, les chercheurs ont obtenu un polypropylène recyclé pur à plus de 99,8 %. Ce matériau recyclé, transformé en filament homogène par extrusion à haute température, permet une impression directe dans des imprimantes 3D commerciales. Cette innovation répond aux exigences croissantes de l’économie circulaire et aux futures réglementations européennes imposant un taux minimum de matériaux recyclés dans les emballages.
Nanoplastiques : un nouvel outil révèle leur concentration et leur composition chimique
Une équipe internationale menée par l’Université du Massachusetts Amherst a développé une méthode innovante, appelée OM-SERS (optical manipulation and surface-enhanced Raman scattering), pour détecter et identifier précisément les nanoplastiques présents dans l’eau et d’autres milieux complexes. Utilisant des nanoparticules d’or activées par laser, cette approche permet de concentrer rapidement les nanoplastiques, puis d’analyser directement leur nature chimique et leur quantité. Cet outil inédit ouvre la voie à une meilleure compréhension de la toxicité environnementale et sanitaire de ces particules extrêmement mobiles et réactives.

Polymères et recyclage : opportunités économiques entre l’Europe et le Québec

Une voie innovante pour valoriser les déchets de PVC en bioéthanol
Des chercheurs coréens ont développé un procédé combinant pyrolyse du PVC et production de bioéthanol, offrant une alternative durable au recyclage classique du polychlorure de vinyle. Lors de la pyrolyse à 390 °C, le PVC libère de l’acide chlorhydrique (HCl) utilisé ensuite pour hydrolyser des résidus végétaux, libérant des sucres fermentés en bioéthanol. Le résidu solide est ensuite co-pyrolysé avec du CO₂ pour produire syngas, huile et charbon, tout en valorisant jusqu’à 7 000 kg de CO₂ pour 40 000 kg de résidus traités. Ce procédé transforme des déchets plastiques toxiques en produits chimiques d’intérêt, tout en intégrant une dimension de capture carbone prometteuse pour l’économie circulaire.
