Un papier hydrophobe révolutionnaire pour remplacer le plastique
Une étude menée par des chercheurs de l’université Polytechnique de Milan a permis de développer un papier hydrophobe durable, renforcé par des nanofibres de cellulose et des peptides, offrant une alternative biodégradable aux matériaux dérivés du pétrole. La Conférence Internationale sur les Polyoléfines, organisée par la Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), célèbre son 50ᵉ anniversaire à Galveston, Texas, du 16 au 19 février 2025. Honda adopte un bioplastique pour les carénages et pare-brises de motos
Honda utilise le bioplastique Durabio, conçu par Mitsubishi Chemical, pour les carénages et pare-brises de sa moto X-ADV, introduite au Japon en décembre 2024. Fabriqué à partir d’isosorbide, un matériau bio-sourcé dérivé de l’amidon, Durabio combine les propriétés du polycarbonate et du PMMA tout en offrant une alternative écologique. Un polymère révolutionnaire pour le stockage de données
Des chercheurs de l’université Flinders ont mis au point un nouveau polymère capable de révolutionner le stockage de données en offrant une alternative plus durable et efficace aux disques durs, disques SSD et mémoires flash actuels. Ce matériau, fabriqué à partir de soufre et de dicyclopentadiène, stocke les données sous forme de minuscules indentations nanométriques, permettant une densité de stockage supérieure à celle des disques durs conventionnels.
Le polymère, développé dans le laboratoire Chalker, peut être effacé et réutilisé rapidement grâce à des impulsions de chaleur, rendant le processus plus écologique et économique. Cette découverte, publiée dans Advanced Science, met en lumière le potentiel des polysulfures renouvelables pour répondre aux besoins croissants de stockage à l’ère de l’intelligence artificielle et du big data.
En utilisant un microscope à force atomique et un instrument de sonde, l’équipe a démontré la possibilité de répéter les cycles d’écriture, de lecture et d’effacement de données de manière fiable. Ce polymère se distingue par son coût réduit et son adaptabilité, dépassant ainsi les limites des technologies mécaniques de stockage de données explorées par des géants comme IBM ou Intel.
